Why Look For The Perfect Board?

Do you sometimes wonder if all these different surfboard designs would actually change the way you surf?  Does a set of surfboard fins costing over $60 really make a difference on the way you surf?  What does a bat wing tail on a surfboard really do or is it just a way to sell more boards?  Although some surfboard designs can be questionable and some differences can just be splitting hairs, generally speaking, there is a purpose behind every design.  Once you understand the surfboard’s anatomy and the function behind each design characteristic, you can then tailor your board to the way you like to surf.  Whether you’re looking for a board that will help you paddle into waves with ease, or you’re looking to rip like a pro, the right board will make a difference.  Finding the perfect board will take you to whole new level of fun and performance.

The search for the perfect surfboard is no easy task.  Today there are more variations of surfboards design than ever before.  The surf industry advances surfboards to higher performance levels with new technology, materials, shapes and design features.  Unless you run a surf shop, it’s unlikely that you’ll get to test-drive a wide variety of boards as you search for the right one.  Surfboards are more expensive than ever before, making it more important than ever to do your research and understand exactly what you’re buying.

No one can really identify the perfect surfboard for you but it really helps to understand why you prefer a board with a squash tail versus a pin tail or why you prefer soft rails versus hard rails.  You know what you want out of surfing: whether it be smacking the lip as hard as you can, throwing buckets of spray, gliding through the water making round arching turns, or riding up on the nose of the board, you can find the perfect board to use.
